Llandudno’s Fach reservoir, reminiscent of Istanbul’s Basilica Cistern with its towering columns and arched brick ceilings, was originally built to address water shortages for the growing town.

Unlike the famous Basilica, the Fach reservoir is much smaller, newer by over 1,200 years, and was not initially designed to be subterranean. Historically linked to St Tudno, the reservoir was converted into an underground facility in 1914 and now lies largely forgotten beneath Happy Valley.

Despite its potential, it remains unused, its dark interior marked by signs of past vandalism, and its history as a vital water source overshadowed by modern developments.

Our objective was to develop a brand that reflects the deep history of Welsh folklore, capturing the essence of the legends and mythical creatures that define the region’s cultural heritage. We will breathe new life into the Vaults, transforming it into a captivating space that celebrates and educates visitors about the rich tapestry of Welsh folklore.
