The Vaults Project

Executive Summary

Llandudno Vaults
A Groundbreaking Cultural Attraction

Hidden beneath the disused pitch & putt course in Happy Valley, Llandudno, lies a remarkable, forgotten structure—a Victorian red-brick reservoir known as Y Fach. Built in 1916, this vast subterranean space spans 40m by 35m, with a vaulted ceiling reaching 6m high, and is constructed from approximately 248 meticulously aligned brick arches. Originally designed to hold nearly a million gallons of water, it has remained perfectly preserved beneath the hillside, unseen by all but a handful of people since its construction over a century ago.

Our Vision

Llandudno Vaults aims to transform this architectural marvel into an immersive, world-class attraction that will bring to life the myths and monsters of Welsh folklore.

Using cutting-edge audiovisual technology, 3D holography, and theatrical storytelling, we will create a stunning, interactive experience that will allow visitors to step into the enigmatic world of Welsh legend—a place where the Afanc, the Water Leaper, and other mythical creatures emerge from the shadows in a breathtaking Victorian setting.

Cultural & Economic Impact

Llandudno Vaults will serve as a catalyst for regeneration, enhancing Llandudno’s cultural appeal and boosting the local economy.

It will:

✅ Create year-round employment for local residents.

✅ Attract new visitors to the area, increasing footfall for local businesses, hotels, and restaurants.

✅ Preserve an extraordinary Victorian structure while promoting Welsh culture through innovative storytelling.

✅ Inspire educational engagement, encouraging schools and further education institutions to explore Welsh mythology and heritage.

Why now?

With Llandudno’s tourism industry evolving, there is a growing demand for unique, immersive experiences that go beyond traditional attractions. Llandudno Vaults offers something entirely original, blending history, mythology, and cutting-edge technology to create an attraction unlike any other in North Wales or the UK.

Now is the time to unlock the secrets beneath Happy Valley and establish Llandudno Vaults as a flagship cultural destination—one that honours the past while captivating the imagination of future generations.
